The Council of the Bristol Record Society is its governing body. The Lord Mayor serves as President but usually only chairs the Annual General Meeting. Other Councillors are typically academics, former academics, archivists, librarians and noted scholars who work on Bristol history. Representatives for Bristol Archives and Bristol Libraries serve as as ex-officio members.
The Council typically meets twice a year to discuss proposals for new publications, assess progress of the Society’s work and to oversee its activities and finances. Managing editors of contracted volumes are drawn from the Council.
