The Bristol Record Society publishes and makes available materials for studying and researching the city’s history by a variety of means. These include:
Bristol Record Society volumes
Primarily transcriptions, calendars and indexes of manuscript sources, published in both printed form and electronically.
Similar in content to our volumes, these are less formal works, which are deemed useful but are not subject to the same level of editorial oversight. They are only published electronically.
Includes both records volumes that are similar in content / approach to our own volumes but also includes printed works from past times (e.g. guidebooks) that are useful for studying Bristol’s history.
Historical books, articles, pamphlets and leaflets that are either out-of-copyright, or where the copyright holder has granted us permission to publish a work electroncially.
Bristol Historical Association pamphlets
The 120 pamphlets produced by the Bristol Branch of the Historical Association between 1960 and 2007.
Historic maps, drawings, prints, paintings and photographs of sites in Bristol.
Most of the texts we have digitised and epublished are freely available on Internet Archive. To keep abreast of our latest digitisation work, visit the Bristol Record Society Collection.
Other activities to promote the study and understanding of Bristol’s history include: the creation / editing of Wikipedia pages, adding images to Wikimedia and creating/publishing googlemaps.
